Point de Gaze Handkerchief

14" square
Excellent condition. just a few minor pinholes in the mesh. I wonder if it has been washed, it looks a little overly white.

Design of flowers in pots, which is a bit unusual. Whitework embroidery monnogram "M C". Note that the line of the mesh follows the central cloth in a curve around the piece. Good fillings and jours, note the heavy picoted rings in the flowers. Not the really top quality, and a little over-elaborate. But it does have a provenance.

Translation of the inscription on the reverse of the illustrated card (thanks to Frieda Sorber):

This handkerschief was sold by the descendants of a Polish princess who left Poland around 1912 and lived in Switzerland until the 80's. She lived from the sale of family jewelry until she died. She did not want to sell her lace because it had belonged to her mother. After her death the collection was sold by Drouot Paris.
Signed Chretienne Schoutteet.
