Carrickmacross guipure border

Very good condition. Cut both ends, light brown in color. Slight fraying of the muslin in a few motifs, minor.

This piece strongly resembles Carrickmacross_guipure_shawl_1, and the hanging flowers appear to be the same in both pieces. There are only two filling patterns in the flower petals. Both filling patterns are done with embroidered machine net which has been sewn onto the back of the entire flower, then embroidered in the open spaces. Brides have thin buttonholed picots sometimes with an obvious small loop at the tip. This was probably where the picot was secured by a pin. These picots are also used along the lower border. Excellent work in the small motifs creating a dense background to the flowers.
