40 Stamp Pane of the 22ยข Lacemaking Stamps

Note that the 5x8 format is not conducive to producing a standard block of 4. The stamp was issued on August 14, 1987. From mid-perforation, each measures 1-5/8" x 1-1/4". See the American Philatelic - Lacemaking Stamps Index page for details on the production of these stamps.

Two different colors of blue are used for the Lacemaking stamps, one for the background (PMS* 286U) and one for the lettering (PMS 288U), although they appear almost the same color. The white intaglio engraved lace designs are printed over two coats of the offset blue background. A good listing of the people involved in the stamp production can be found on the USPS Lacemaking Commerative Stamps page.

* PMS = Pantone Matching System, U means Uncoated paper.
