Photo Essay

Two versions of the Lacemaking stamp ‘Photo Essay’ are shown. These images were produced for before a stamps's release for press and publicity purposes to provide ablack & white depiction of stamps for publication. They were often used as a basis for the artwork of some cachet makers who needed to complete their work before a stamp was issued. They often did not exactly match the actual stamp eventually release, in fact these two photos differ in the details in how the two rose motifs are connected to a center cloth. This is different again in the final stamp which treats both those areas as a net.

The plain example is a glossy photo - the perforations are not real. 4-1/2" x 3-1/2"

This cachet is tied to the stamps with a “First Day of Issue” postmark and cancellation. It is mounted on a #6-3/4 envelope (6.5" x 3-11/16").
