Marg Set of five #6-3/4 (6-1/2" x 3-11/16") unaddressed envelopes. “First Day of Issue” cancellations and postmarks on each. The purple cachet is either a knitted or crocheted doily - hard to tell which. Marg produced its first cachet on February 20, 1962. Marg cachets were produced by Edmund Shea (died 1982) of Shea Advertising, and were primarily used as advertising by Shea’s clients, with an enclosure letter about the subject, and an occasional advertisement. An example from The Foxboro Company, a software developer, is shown below (I do agree about the connection between software and lacemaking). Obviously the work was carried on after Shea's death, how long, I’m not sure. first posted 1/11/09 |
