Sycamore bobbin winder by Reg Higgs

A beautiful lace making bobbin winder hand crafted in a traditional style from sycamore wood. It was designed and made by my late father Reg Higgs (a Member of the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen who was a regular supplier to the English Lace School at Honiton) in the late 1980s, but has never been used, remaining in storage until this time. According to my father's notes, it was designed to wind either Honiton or Midlands (spangled) bobbins from cotton spools or reels.  He added that it can also wind bobbins in pairs i.e. with an unbroken cotton thread as required for certain Midlands type lace.
