Argentan border

Good condition. A few breaks in the engrelure. There is a zigzag join ~21" from the left end. The pattern of the lower border changes about 0.5" from both ends, which is puzzling.

This border might justify the name of Argentan, since it has brides bouclée, and fairly dense clothwork with no fillings (other than the very ends). These characteristics, along with the rather heavy aspect of the design is what collectors accept as Argentan. Whether or not it was actually made in Argentan will likely never be known.
