Inishmacsaint collar

14.5" neckline, 2" center depth
Small hole in the left motif and center fillings. Repair to left center engrelure. Small hole left endpoint.

A rare example of Irish Inishmacsaint needlelace. The clothwork is quite fine, but the fillings are of only one stitch type. Sources say that the linen thread was locally processed.  Note the rings used as decorations on the bottom edge of this collar.  This type of lace approximates Gros Point designs, but with a more modern viewpoint. The raised work is very simple, with no sculpting.
