Deruta Pulled Thread Embroidery placemat

~10" x 31" (25.4cm x 78.74cm)
Excellent condition, look unused. Three vertical fold lines.

Deruta is a town in Umbria, Italy, famous for pottery. This type of embroidery is worked on a loose plain weave linen cloth. The edge border is crochet with some picots, not sure how this is padded. This is a matching piece to Deruta_2, with the deer on one side, and the bird along the other side is much clearer. The stitches seem to be double running stitch sometimes worked with two threads. There are some YouTube videos in Italian. This type of work apparently goes back a long time, but has had a recent revival. Can't find much information on the web.
